The Power of Mood Boards: Laying the Foundation for Inspired Design

All of my projects start with a mood board. It’s my first step, my guiding light, and the foundation of every creative decision that follows.

I begin by collecting images that support the concept—textures, colors, materials, and architectural elements that set the tone. Then, as the project evolves, I constantly refer back to the mood board to ensure that every selection aligns with the original vision.

It’s easy to think, "I’m too busy; I don’t have time for that first step." But in reality, taking the time upfront makes everything easier. A clear concept streamlines decision-making, eliminates second-guessing, and creates a cohesive, intentional space.

Good design isn’t just about individual pieces—it’s about how everything works together. And for me, that process always starts with a mood board.

Do you use mood boards in your creative work? I’d love to hear how you start your projects!
