Artist Sydney Croskery is one of my oldest and dearest friends and she’s launched a really cool idea – she’s selling her “warm-up” sketches and paintings with all proceeds going to charitable causes. Warm-up sketches function in much the same way that stretching warms up muscles before you exercise—they help an artist warm up before they embark on a substantial piece. Who knew?!
Rather than setting a price, she’s having buyers name the price, be it $40, $60, $100 or whatever you want to contribute because Sydney’s more interested in raising money for charitable causes than profiting on these pieces herself. For now it’s exclusively her work, but she’s thinking about looping in her artist friends to contribute their work as well. Anyone who’s shopped for art knows what an investment it can be so this is a great opportunity to own an original piece of art at a fraction of original art work prices.
Sydney will be rotating the charities she supports, the proceeds raised from the pieces shown above will be contributed to the GoFundMe campaign for Brad Brown and Family, her neighbors and dear friends who’s father was tragically shot and killed just before the new year. Money raised will be used to help the family with funeral expenses.
The pieces above plus a few more can be viewed on Sydney’s Facebook page – but act fast because they sell out quickly! You can also follow her on Instagram @the_cairns to see what she’ll have for sale next.
Personally, I love the whimsical nature of the color pieces especially juxtaposed against the austerity of the black and whites – I snapped up a few to hang in a powder room but I could envision them in an entry foyer or office too.
